I've Broken Up With Torchwood

I managed to download all of Misfits, which I've been watching on and off. It's ridiculous and low-budget and over the top and has some seriously dodgy moments, but I'm sort of loving it anyway. Nathan is ridiculously entertaining, and I find Kelly and Alisha kind of unexpectedly winning and adorable. I started watching because I started using Robert Sheehan as a PB and wanted to see him actually IN something. I'm glad I didn't see it BEFORE I wrote up the character because the sheer ridiculousness of Nathan might have infused the process due to the faces he makes.

I'm used to the teenage-superhero narratives I've seen being sort of squeaky clean, so while sometimes the language/sex/etc. is so dense it makes me roll my eyes, it's also weirdly fun. It's pretty much Skins with superpowers. . . and I like Skins, so I guess I was an easy sell?

I also can't remember if I talked about it, but I somehow got sucked into Teen Wolf. Which I was NOT going to do because I was all bitchy and scornful about the unnecessary nature of a Teen Wolf update. But then there was a marathon on and I was entertained and then it was fun and no one wore shirts and people had crossbows. So there you go.

I maintain that there was NO REASON to call this Teen Wolf and hook it into the 80's movies that way. They have literally nothing in common, and I can't imagine there were many people tuning in due to nostalgia for Michael J. Fox with facial hair playing basketball. But that aside, it was not a bad show. Cut for spoilersCollapse )

So who can point me toward fic and kink memes for new things? I might need some icons too. *pokes around*

And I watched the TVD premiere, which I have surprisingly few thinky thoughts about. It was sort of slow, compared to last season's opener, and spoilers againCollapse )

I can't even sort out my thoughts on Doctor Who save to say that I loved some things, didn't love other things, and have this disquieting feeling of dissatisfaction that I can't really map down where it stems from quite yet. I still love Eleven, and the Ponds, and River Song though.

And I finished Torchwood: Miracle Day. Cut for spoilers, decided lack of squeeCollapse )

On the other hand, when I have a bad day or a bad breakup with a TV show I have too much emotional involvement with, watching Top Gear build their own train out of caravans makes me much happier.

30 days of fanfic
24 – Betaing – How many betas do you like to use to make sure there aren't any major flaws in your story? Do you have a Beta horror story or dream story?
I like to have at least two sets of eyes looking things over, but I've never managed to get a regular beta reader, so I usually take what I can get. My most regular beta is my mom. Who I always have to tell to YES, IT'S OKAY TO TELL ME TO FIX THINGS because she gets worried about stifling my style or something. It's cute, a little.

No real horror stories, and probably what I felt was the best was when I got an off-the-cuff beta for my Jurassic Park story in the yuletide chat who proved to be fantastically helpful.

25 – Music – Do you listen to music while you write? Do you make playlists to get into a certain "mood" to write your story? Do you need noise in general? Or do you need it completely quiet?
I usually have something playing if I'm on my own. If not, then my sister always has the TV on so it's very rarely quiet. I'm good about working with noise, but I can work without it, too.

26 – What is the oddest (or funnest) thing you've had to research for a story?
Medieval porn springs to mind. Though I have also tried to find dinosaur facts, stuff about bombs and explosions and heat (X-Men Pyro story), and obscure football rules and plays.

The porn was the funniest though because. . . well. Porn.

Cut for the rest of the days.Collapse )
