The warranty runs out in like three months, so thank god it's doing this now and not in three months. I've just backed up everything I had on Duma, and it took two external hardrives. It's probably safe to say I keep too much shit on there.
But whenever I get on the desktop, I feel like I don't remember how to do anything anymore because I'm so used to the Mac. I am a dumbass all over again.
Let's finish this puppy up.
30 days of fanfic
27 – Where is your favorite place to write, and do you write by hand or on the computer?
I usually like to write best on my laptop, in the living room with no one else up/out there. This doesn't happen often. I pretty much always write on a computer these days, but if for any reason I don't have one around, I pretty much always have a notebook and pen around to jot things in. Failing that, I do notes on my phone/ipod a lot. (I like shovebox on the ipod which syncs to the mac. . . which I don't have on the windows desktop. I miss it already.)
Failing that, I write in my room either with the laptop on the bed and me lying on my tummy, which is never good for my neck but I do it anyway, or on the desktop.
28 – Have you ever collaborated with anyone else, whether writing together, or having an artist work on a piece about your story?
I do RP a lot which is collaborative writing. (I'm actually working on an article on RP style collaborative writing which. . . I have no idea what I'm doing with. Possibly posting to rp_tutorials. I don't know why I'm writing it, I just AM.) But I don't really count that. I haven't co-written fic in years. I have worked with an artist, namely banesidhe/etchedglass, who does the visual aspects of fics like Map, The WWW remix, and The Leverage zombiefic. Those stories always came to me with visual aspects, and since I had no skill to render that, I asked the wifey for help. In the case of the WWW remix, I couldn't get the formatting to work right, AND I felt like a text-only version lost all the funny, so she worked it into images that were easier to format, and did the notes as a visual project instead of just a text one. The other two the concept always HAD visual elements that I didn't know how to do on my own and flailed incoherently at her to help me. It always came out about twenty times lovelier than I anticipated.
I did try to work with other writers more recently for the Star Trek St Respect Olympics, which I enjoyed but felt I wasn't really great at. My last minute style doesn't mesh well with a team undertaking. (I still need to finish cleaning up and reposting my Star Trek/Wizard of Oz fic to the archive, because it makes me giggle, damnit.)
Overall though, I do really love working with other people to add visual style or another viewpoint to my writing, I just haven't had much practice at it, aside from the wife.
29 – What is your current project or projects?
Oh god, so many. I have. . . three Vampire Diaries fics, four Marvelverse fics, two Doctor Who fics, six Dragon Age fics, three HP fics, a Teen Wolf fic, two crossovers of doom, A Kings fic, a White Collar/Leverage fic, two Merlin fics, a WoW fic, two A:tLA fics, two FNL fics, and like five original projects.
Of those, I'm working on finishing two Marvelverse ones (one is just in editing), one of the Vamp Diaries (originally a big bang, but I had to drop out because the first take didn't work), two Dragon Ages, the WoW fic, and two original ones.
30 – Do you have a favorite story you've written? What makes it your favorite? And don't forget to give us a link!
I'm really fond of Map, because I feel like it came out as the story I saw in my head the most clearly. That was how I saw the Marauders' in-between years, and it just worked for me.
After that it's probably a toss up. I'm very fond of A Year of Women, because I think the points I tried to make and the story I tried to tell worked well together. I also like Survival By Eliot, because SO MUCH WORK oh my god, but it still makes me smile. And it's never been super popular, but I really like my XMMV Pyro/Gambit fic, But We are Not Snakes. And my Firefly/Gremlins fic Never After Midnight just because while there are some writing things that pain me in it, it remains my favorite prompt I've ever gotten in a challenge. GREMLINS. SO AWESOME.
